Ten students from Falmouth School are about to begin a year-long project that will involve them working in the community to improve it.
The group, made up of all girls, have recently completed a five-day Phoenix Project course at Falmouth Fire Station.
The mentoring programme is also being led by Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service and will begin on Monday with the girls clearing and tidying up Events Square in Falmouth.
Over the next 12 months they will also complete a road safety awareness programme, look at anti-social behaviour and its effects with Devon and Cornwall Police and have an opportunity to work alongside Falmouth Town Council.
Activities in the town will include painting, street cleaning and organising a community event.
Following this programme the girls will go on a reward day to celebrate the hard work and commitment that they have shown during the year.
Falmouth town manager Richard Gates said: βOn behalf of Falmouth Town Council and myself, I fully endorse the work that the Phoenix Project will be undertaking to ensure Falmouth continues to improve. It is great to see Falmouth School working with the fire service in this excellent initiative.β
