Duchy College Rosewarne’s herd of sheep got set for summer this week as they got sheared in time for warmer weather.
Sheep shearer Tom Tripp, from Llama Land, went through the process of sheep shearing with the animal care students and gave them a demonstration before working his way through the herd where six Hebriddean black sheep and one Portland X said goodbye to their woolly coats.
Barbara, the Portland X breed, was with her new two week old lambs – Timmy and Shaun – which got plenty of attention from the students.
Andrew Counsell, head of Duchy College, said: “We have a fantastic range of animals here at the college and something like this is great experience for the students. We appreciate Tom spending time with our students before getting on with his job, they learn so much from speaking to professionals first hand.”
