Cornwall Council has released a list of frequently asked questions, with answers, relating to the fire at Falmouth Docks this morning.
- How long is the exclusion zone likely to be in place?
At the moment, Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service are saying that it will be necessary to damp down the gas cylinders for at least 24 hours (approx until 9.00am on Saturday morning). They are carrying out risk assessments on a regular basis.
- Which properties are in the exclusion zone?
1 Tredynas Road.
1-2 Pendennis Rise.
19 – 28 Pendennis Rise.
Martime Studios (student accommodation).
All other properties are now accessible.
- I am a student – what should I do?
Tremough is making accommodation available for all students, even if they are not from Tremough. If a student needs assistance with accommodation they can call the Porters Lodge, in Glasney Village, on the Tremough Campus on 01326 253503.
- My home is in the exclusion zone, what shall I do?
If you can stay with family or friends please do so otherwise, a rest centre has been set up at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Melville Road Falmouth.
The Council’s Humanitarian Assistance Response Team (HART), which includes representatives of the Council’s Emergency Management, Adult Care and Support and housing are on site. Primary Care Trust representatives are also available to offer support.
- Where can I get updates on the situation?
Please listen to local press reports. Regular updates will be sent out as news becomes available.
- Has anyone been injured?
There are no reports of any injuries as a direct result of the incident or the evacuation process.
- Can I go back to my home to collect personal belongings?
No. The exclusion zone is there for your safety. The teams at the rest centre will be able to supply you with basic provisions
- What if I need to get medication from my home?
Representatives from the Primary Care Trust are available and will be able to co-ordinate any support required.
- Is there parking at the rest centre?
Parking is available.
- Are trains still running into Falmouth?
Trains are currently terminating at Falmouth Town station.
