Penryn College has official converted into an academy.
It means the school is no longer maintained by the local education authority (LEA).
The school said in a statement that the decision was taken following “lengthy discussions and consultations,” adding: “The governors consider this a very positive decision for the future of Penryn College and will only enhance what we were already able to offer our students.
“Academy status brings with it a high degree of flexibility in funding and how the budget is allocated, along with more freedom in how we deliver the national curriculum.”
From the students’ point of view it was ‘business as usual’ this week, as they they still have the same uniform and the name has not changed.
“They are still benefiting from an exciting and diverse course of study with high expectations and standards,” added the statement.
The students spent the first day of being an academy enjoying their annual sports day.
