Organisers of the Greenbank Fal River Festival are celebrating breaking a visitor number record with this year’s event.

The ten-day festival, which attracted a record 100,000 people this year, has raised over £75,000 for charity.

The figure beats last year’s total of £70,000.

Festival director Toby Budd said: “We’re so pleased with how much money the festival has raised this year.

“It’s great to say that we beat last year’s figure and helped so many worthwhile causes, especially ones that are close to home.

“The festival is a real celebration of life on and around the Fal and the fact that so many people got involved and donated shows that we’ve got a great event.”

Money raised has gone to, amongst others, the Royal National Mission for Deep Sea Fisherman, Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust, RNLI, ShelterBox and BF Adventure.

Toby added: “We had some great charity events including the fish auction as part of the Fal Fish Festival.

“There was also the Greenbank Hotel charity ball, which was the first time we’d held a ball for the festival, and charity abseil down the Maritime Museum tower.

“And there was the Castle to Castle swim for the RNLI, which attracts even more swimmers every year.”
