It’s that time of the year again, when ghosts and goblins appear from their lairs for an evening of Hallowe’en haunting. Across the county scary celebrations are taking place in the form of parties, balls and other fright night fun.

Below is a round-up of the spooky goings on this weekend:

Friday, October 28

  • Halloweden at the Eden Project with a wintry ice rink and Wishcraft Tent with magical activities such as pumpkin carving demonstrations, wand making and potion mixing.
  • 4pm: Hallowe’en Party on Mount Hawke Millennium Green. Pumpkin competition, fancy dress competition, carousel, stalls, games, burgers, cakes and drinks. Call 01209 891818 or 07747 195306 for details.
  • 6pm – 9pm: Little Monsters’ Ball at the Eden Project. Fancy dress evening for all the family, with spooky activities and a bone-shaking disco. Tickets £7 with a 20-minute skate an additional £2. Advance booking recommended, call 01726 811972.
  • 6.45pm: Fright Night at the National Museum Cornwall in Falmouth. Spend a fun filled night with creepy crafty activities and a terrifying tour before bedding down for the night under a sky of flying boats. Spooky shenanigans are guaranteed. Tickets £25 per person.   • 7.30pm: Charity Hallowe’en Party at Falmouth Watersports Centre in aid of Joshua Jones Appeal. Call Sally on 07855 638844 or Sue on 07721 498508.
  • 9pm – 11.30pm: Area 51 Hallowe’en Gig at the Seven Stars, Helston. The band is headline Hallowe’en themed weekend. Go dressed to kill, mame or disembowel!

Saturday, October 29

  • Halloweden at the Eden Project. Full details see Friday (above).
  • 12pm – 3.30pm: Horrible Hallowe’en Happenings at National Maritime Museum Cornwall in Falmouth. Get into the spirit and make your own monstrous mask and wicked witches hat and find the petrifying pumpkins.
  • 6pm – 9pm: Little Monsters’ Ball at the Eden Project. Full details, see Friday (above).
  • From 6pm: Lost Boys themed Hallowe’en Masked Ball at Rosuick Farm near Goonhilly Downs.

Live electronic acts from across Europe, as well as the Dr Von Hyde Ghost Train to transport guests into a hidden shot bar, Psyko Circus tent containing performance artist fire shows and some of Cornwall's best underground DJs, together with a hidden village.

On the main arena will be The Glimmers who remix for the likes of Grace Jones, MGMT, Bloc Party and The Killers, with appearances also from human beat boxer PeteBox, who has rocked the crowds at V festival this year and been crowned Radio 1's beat boxing champion, plus Drums of Death, who has no face and instead a macabre mask resembling a deranged clown.

  • 7pm – 11pm: Hallowe’en Party at Culdrose Community Centre, Helston. Fancy dress and spine tingling disco dancing.
  • 8pm: Hallowe’en celebrations at St Rumons Social Club, Redruth. Disco and live music until late, featuring KAJ acoustic vocalist. Prize for the best fancy dress. Call 01209 313705 for more details.

Sunday, October 30

Monday, October 31

  • Halloweden at the Eden Project. Full details see Friday (above).
  • BOO Party at Newquay Zoo, with scary witches, jolly pumpkins, black cats and wizards. Meet slithery snakes, creepy-crawlies and scary stinks at spooky animal encounters throughout the evening, and see Hubble and Bubble in their witches’ coven brewing up a storm.

Take the trick or treat night-time tour of the zoo, watch fire-eaters and stilt walkers and enjoy family fun games. Prizes for best and scariest fancy dress – children and adults.
