Taxpayers in Falmouth will be asked to pay no extra money for services from the town council next year.

For the second year running, the authority is proposing no increase in its portion of the council tax bills for the town.

The news was welcomed by members of the finances and general purposes committee on Monday evening.

Committee chairman Dr David Sterratt said: “In these difficult times, we need to do all we can to help.

“We are still getting things done, we are installing solar panels this year, we are upgrading play areas in the town, but we are doing it all in a prudent manner.”

One significant change to the authority’s budget for next year will see the removal of burial charges for under 16s.

The news was welcomed by councillor Allyson Biggins, who said: “The last thing you would need at that terrible time, would be a bill dropping through your letterbox from us.”
