A former lifeguard was tasered after threatening to get a baseball bat to attack police officers after his girlfriend was arrested.

Warren Brewer, 20, of Glebe Place, Ruan Minor, Helston, pleaded guilty at Truro Magistrates’ Court to resisting a police officer at Penzance on December 28.

Alison May, prosecuting, said police had been called to an address in Henry Street, Penzance after midnight where there was an argument going on involving defendant, his girl friend, her parents and younger brother.

She was arguing and being aggressive and the police arrested her. At this, Brewer tried to pull her away, saying: “Get the f… off her”, and then threatening to go upstairs and get a baseball bat.

After being tasered he told officers: “I am going to learn from this. I won’t threaten the police again.”

He said everyone had been drinking and an argument had got out of hand.

Chris Spencer, for Brewer, said he had been a life guard but after an accident on a motor cycle he could not find employment. On the night of the offence he had been out with his girl friend, her parents and brother and they had been drinking.

At the home afterwards there was an incident involving the girl and her mother that caused the problem.

With his judgement clouded by alcohol he agreed that he had attempted to physically intervene.

Brewer was told to attend an attendance centre for 36 hours.
