SURFERS took on a three mile paddle from Praa Sands to Porthleven to raise money for new play equipment at their local primary school last weekend.
The members of the Porthleven Surf Club braved the icy seas for more than two hours – but managed to raise a warming £1,000 in the process.
The event was organised by Jay Rowe and Sam Boex from the club, who managed to encourage a total of 16 members to take to the water for the event.
Jay said: “I went along to a PTA meeting at the primary school and they were talking about their fundraising for the play equipment, and I thought we could do something to help.
“The club is normally more of a social thing, this was the first time we have done something for charity, but myself and Sam sent off emails to everyone and we got a good response.
“We thought we would paddle from Praa Sands to Porthleven, and thought it would take around two hours, which it did.
“We have raised £1,000, and local businessman Trevor Osborne has offered to match that, so it is good news for the fund.
“I also have to say thank you to Dan Joel’s surf school at Poldhu Cove, who lent us the boards for the paddle.”
The next event in the fundraising campaign is an Easter Fair, which takes place at the school on Saturday between 11am and 3pm.
