DESPITE winning their gold medals 52 years apart, two of Falmouth’s greatest Olympians found they had plenty in common when they met up in the town last week.
David Bond, aged 90, Great Britain’s last surviving Olympic Gold medallist from the London 1948 Games and Ben Ainslie; Britain’s most successful Olympic sailor were pictured together (right) at the Sail for Gold Olympic exhibition at National Maritime Museum.
Capturing Olympic history, together they represent Great Britain’s Olympic sailing legacy, and not only share phenomenal skills at sailing but they have Falmouth as their home town.
The ‘Our Sporting Life – Sail for Gold’ exhibition at National Maritime Museum Cornwall in Falmouth celebrates British Olympic and Paralympic sailing heritage and runs until 24 June.
There is also an interactive Finn dinghy display where people can show their support for Ben by tweeting #benandrita and sending him messages of good luck for the months ahead.
