Disaster was averted at a Roseland hotel yesterday, thanks to the quick actions of a firefighting member of staff.

A total of fourteen fire crew from St Mawes and Mevagissey were called to a hotel, believed to be The Nare Hotel on Carne Beach, at 9.39am to reports of a fire in the boiler room.

On arrival, the fire service were thankful to find a quick thinking member of hotel staff had extinguished the fire using a dry powder extinguisher.

A spokesman for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "The two storey building involved measured 60 x 25 metres and fire crews used a thermal imaging camera to inspect the fire scene.

"Two breathing apparatus were also worn to help ventilate and clear smoke from the property.

"After investigation it was established that the fire had involved wires and trunking in the boiler room.

"Crews remained on scene until an electrical engineer made the scene safe."
