Cuts hit Penzance CCTV coverage
1:30pm Friday 13th July 2012 in News
CCTV coverage in Penzance will be cut by a third after the town council decided to withdraw funding.
While the cameras will stay on, operators will not move them around or alert police at peak times, after Penzance Town Council said it could not afford £10,000 a year cost At the moment operators are employed for 33 hours a week. This will fall to 24 hours, after the cuts.
The move has not been welcomed by Penzance Chamber of Commerce chairman, Dick Cliffe.
He said: "Businesses in the town centre are already under particular stress at the moment. You are talking about £10,000 to make this town centre a place where people feel comfortable during the day and in the evening."
