St Austell woman dies hours after teenager is arrested

A woman from St Austell has died following an incident in which an 18-year-old man was arrested.

The 47-year-old woman had been taken to Derriford Hospital with serious injuries yesterday, after being involved in a collision with a Citroen Saxo in Tremyane Road, St Austell.

She has since died as a result of those injuries; her next-of-kin have been informed.

An 18-year-old man from the area was arrested at the scene last night in connection with the incident and taken to Newquay Police Station.

The incident is being investigated by officers from the force’s Major Crime Investigation Team and St Austell CID.

A police spokesman said: “Police are treating the death as unexplained at this time and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision. Officers have confirmed that the victim and the suspect were known to each other.”

Police were called at around 9.20pm and attended the incident along with fire and ambulance crews.

The area of the incident was cordoned off overnight while crime scene investigators attended the scene.
