Helston butcher loses battle with cancer
7:50am Wednesday 1st August 2012 in News By Emma Ferguson, News Editor
A well known family butcher from Helston has died from cancer at the age of 49.
Peter Oliver passed away on Saturday morning at St Julia's Hospice in Hayle.
He had been battling cancer for three years, continuing to work through much of his illness.
Mr Oliver had been a butcher all his life, trained by his father Gerald.
After working at weekends, he joined the family business upon leaving education at 16, taking it over with his sister Sarah when Gerald retired.
Olivers, in Meneage Street, has been run by the family for 151 years.
A funeral for Mr Oliver will now take place this Friday (August 3) from 11am at St Michael's Church, Helston. It is open to anyone who wants to pay their respects.
There will be family flowers only, but donations can be made to St Julia's Hospice - as part of Cornwall Hospice Care - and Helston-based Cancer Funding for Cornwall.
