Helston now has another business in the town centre after  the opening of 'Garters and Gloves' in Horse and Jockey Lane on Saturday.

Janette Johns, from Bulwark Road, has opened the store, which will sell bridal and prom accessories, such as tiaras, fascinators and hair pieces, as well as the gloves and garters it is named after. There will also be jewellery and body jewels, although it will not carry out piercings.

It will be run from a shop that was once a hair salon, a fishmongers and most recently a second hand furniture store.

Janette told the Packet: “I’ve always wanted to have a shop but never worked out what I wanted to do. Then my daughter had a prom and we had so much trouble to find accessories it suddenly struck us – we could sell them.”

Janette’s eldest daughter Becky, 20, thought up the name for the shop. The whole family, which includes Janette’s husband Russell and two other children Alice and Phoebe, were there on Saturday giving it a lick of paint and helping prepare for this Saturday.

Janette said she was now able set up the business, after being a housewife for many years, as her youngest daughter was about to start school in September.
