A FALMOUTH fish and chip shop has been named as a semi-finalist in the UK’s National Fish and Chip Awards.
Harbour Lights, situated on Arwenack Street, will now battle it out against nine other shops, including Steins Fish & Chips in Padstow, in the awards, which are organised by Seafish, the authority on seafood.
The shops are vying to become one of three in the final round of judging and crowned winner of the Independent Fish and Chip Restaurant Award category at the awards ceremony at London’s Lancaster Hotel on January 24 next year.
The finalists will be revealed during September.
Peter Fraser, owner of Harbour Lights, said: “Everybody is absolutely thrilled as it’s been a team effort to get to this stage. “We’ve all put so much into the business in the last couple of years so it’s good to be recognised for it. “We try to keep training as simple as possible, the only thing we say is that every customer has to leave with a smile on their face. The same goes for the judges.”
Nikki Hawkins, foodservice and events manager at Seafish, said: “These shortlisted businesses have been recognised for their highly professional attitude to running a restaurant and their commitment to a sustainable future for the industry, and we wish them every success in the next stage of the competition.”
