Port to welcome largest sail ship
Wind Surf, the largest sailing ship in the world Picture: WINDSTAR CRUISES Next year will see two sailing cruise ships making their inaugural calls at Falmouth.
The largest sailing ship in the world, the Wind Surf, is a sleek, five-masted sailing yacht accommodating 312 guests. With six decks and a gross tonnage of 14,745, Wind Surf is the largest yacht in the Windstar fleet. She will call at Falmouth in July on her Portsmouth to Dublin cruise.
Making 15 calls will be the three-masted Panorama, which can accommodate up to 49 passengers in 25 cabins.
The Panorama was launched in 1993 and was renovated in 2009.
The 2013 season kick starts with the arrival of Princess Cruises’ Emerald Princess and Crown Princess in May as the ships make their trans-Atlantic repositioning cruises to Europe.
The residential vessel The World, the only private residential community-at-sea, will also be returning to Falmouth next July for a two-day call.
During her previous visit, two years ago, Falmouth and Cornwall must have made a lasting impression on the people who decide where this unique vessel goes on her voyages around the globe as the port was rapidly picked again as a port of call.
The World continuously circumnavigates the globe on an itinerary selected by the resident community through a voting process. Itineraries are determined approximately two years in advance by a team comprised of a resident itinerary committee, the captains and director of itinerary and destination planning.
The resident community is comprised of 130 families who hail from 19 countries throughout the USA, Europe, Asia, Australia, South America and South Africa. Since it first set sail in 2002, The World has visited more than 800 ports in approximately 140 countries.
Everywhere this remarkable ship goes she attracts and generates media attention. Her “residents” pay from £1 million to £4.6m for an onboard apartment.
