Porthleven trio's Olympic fundraising effort
Two brothers from Porthleven collected plenty of gold, silver and bronze when they fundraised with an Olympic Torch.
Philip and Thomas Crawley went to Penzance to welcome Olympic gold medallist Helen Glover home, taking their cousin Trevelyan Magor’s Olympic Torch with them. What they did not expect, however, was to be “almost mobbed” by people asking if they could hold the torch or have their picture taken with it.
This gave them the idea to do some fundraising using the torch, so on Sunday they set up an Olympic flag at Porthleven Lifeboat Day.
The trio offered passers-by the chance to have their photo taken with the torch for the price of a donation to Riding for the Disabled.
After a frantic couple of hours the brothers had raised £106.40 for the charity.
Trevelyan – who carried the torch in Penzance on May 19 – regularly takes part in carriage driving sessions held at Chiverton.
Philip, 14, said: “We know how important Trevelyan’s visits to the RDA are to him and his family and wanted to do something to help the group.”
