Camborne free parking plan

A bid to improve town centre trade in Camborne will see two hours free parking offered to shoppers.

Ther town's Business Improvement District has arranged the scheme at Trevithick Road car park for the rest of this month, and all of October.

Mel Martin, BID Camborne manager, said: “Car parking charges are a big concern for local traders and visitors to town centres.

”We therefore wanted to deal with free parking early in the BID Camborne programme to see if offering and promoting free car parking can actually improve trade in the town.

“We want people who haven’t been to the town for a while to use this offer to come and take a look and ‘shop local’.

”The town has more than 150 vibrant local businesses, specialist shops, cafés and pubs, as well as some of your favourite national brands.”

Shame they didn't have the sense to do that in Helston with all that money they got.

Certainly agree this was an opportunity missed for Helston. You can organize as many talking shops and forums as you like but the most important factor as the supermarkets know is parking. Congrats to Camborne on this excellent initiative.

Yes I completely agree with you ronedgcumbe about Helston.

Helston could have 'The Works' in the old Eddy's shop meerkats, it would be about the right size.

I thought Camborne did have the chance to discuss their car-park charges with Cornwall Council with a view to altering them not so long ago, but declined. Or perhaps my memory fails me.

This surely has to be the way forward for many town centres (Falmouth take note). How else are shops supposed to compete with supermarkets? I know i would rather support my local shops and my town centre than to give all custom to a faceless multi national company, but in this day and age when everyone is counting the cost of everything, not having to pay £1.70 to park your car certainly helps out. Well done Camborne

think many towns should look towards camborne for ideas and how things should be run. saving on car parking fees would certainly attract more people .
