Jack Stein will travel to Ireland for a cooking competition next week
The son of celebrity chef Rick Stein will be representing Cornwall when he takes on the other Celtic regions in a Ready Steady Cook style event.
Jack Stein, of The Seafood Restaurant in Padstow, will be cooking in the second annual Celtic Cook Off next Wednesday as part of the Taste of West Cork Food festival in Ireland that runs from next Monday to the following Sunday.
He will be competing alongside his colleague Stephane Delourme, head chef at the restaurant, who is representing Brittany.
Other chefs will come from Ireland, Scotland, Wales and the Isle of Man, which will be represented by the appropriately named chef Butch Buttery.
The event will see the master chefs split in to two groups where they will each have just 30 minutes to impress the judges using West Cork artisan produce and one ingredient from their home turf.
They will also be assisted by three young aspiring chefs from West Cork to help them with preparation and serving.
This year’s event will be judged by last year’s Celtic Cook Off champion Roy Brett from Edinburgh and UK Masterchef winner Tim Anderson, as well as other notable Irish food critics and connoisseurs.
Jack said: “Being born in Cornwall with Irish relatives I am incredibly proud to be representing my county in the cook off. Fortunately my head chef and mentor Stephane Delourme is also of Celtic origin, so I’m hoping that Kernow will prevail in that particular head to head.”
Stephane countered: “I’m very proud to represent Brittany as well as The Seafood Restaurant. It's always inspiring and good fun to cook with other chef and fingers crossed I’ll beat Jack!”
