Flag flying plan for Porthleven harbour
2:30pm Thursday 6th September 2012 in News
The company owning Porthleven’s Harbour Head has applied for permission to fly flags there.
Trevor Osborne of the Harbour and Dock Company has applied for advertisement consent for seven flags on five-metre flagpoles to be installed on the Harbour Head.
The application states that one flag will display the harbour company’s logo, one the Union Flag, another the St Piran flag and four will show designs of the institute and seagulls.
Some residents have contacted the Packet to say the flags are already flying.

The flags would look more in keeping somewhere like Newquay or Padstow, somewhere more commercialized, not in Porthleven, that is, or was :( more unique. There are too many of them, one St Piran's flag would have been ample, although preferably none. Wonder what they will look like after the winter gales. What is this sudden obssession everywhere with flags? The ones in Helston are quite nice as they are relevant colours and small. Don't think much of the do it and then apply for permission attitude, smacks of confidence. I'm installing a mobile phone mast in my front garden.

The flags remind me of the entrance to somewhere like a huge Trago Mills or B&Qs. What next, stick windmill on the Institute.
