Redruth cinema bids to change alcohol licence

Redruth’s Regal Cinema wants to allow alcohol to be drunk in all five of its screens and be served in its theatre.

Merlin Cinemas Ltd, which owns a chain of cinemas around Cornwall, has applied to Cornwall Council to vary its premises licence.

The application is to allow consumption of alcohol in screens one (the theatre), two, three, four and five.

The cinema also wants permission to sell alcohol from its cinema kiosk as well as two new bar areas within screen one.

Merlin wants to extend the opening of the cinema by an hour, to 2am, and show films up to this time as well.

At the same time, it wants to extend its other ‘licensable activities’ by an hour also, to 1am.

These will be plays, live music, dancing performances, dancing and the supply of alcohol.

Members of the public can give their views on the proposal by contact Cornwall Council’s licensing authority based in Dolcoath Avenue, Camborne by Monday, October 1.
