Singer with the stars to join Helston School Jazz Orchestra concert

Tickets are still available for Helston School Jazz Orchestra’s leaver’s concert tomorrow.
This will celebrate the achievements of six of the orchestra’s musicians who are leaving the school to pursue careers or go to university.
Joining the students will be a singer who has shared the stage with the likes of Bjork, Peter Gabriel, Lesley Garrett and Russell Watson.
Emer McParland, whose voice has also featured on movie soundtracks, will be the guest artiste at the concert, which will be held at Helston Community College at 7.30pm.
Emer is first and foremost a jazz and big band singer, but has frequently strayed into the pop and classical worlds.
HSJO's musical director Clive King said it was a tribute to the quality of his young musicians that he could persuade the singer to travel to Helston.
He said: “Emer used to guest with the RAF Squadronaires when I played with them. She's heard our CDs, and knows what a talented bunch she'll be performing with.”
The retiring musicians will be replaced by players from the orchestra's training band.
