Film night remembers Porthleven war hero Guy Gibson

An evening remembering Porthleven war hero Guy Gibson on the anniversary of his death looks likely to be the last.
Vic Strike, who is showing a series of films and radio recordings at Porthleven Public Hall next Wednesday, September 19, said he expects it to be the final film showing as the story will then be complete.
After starting with a 12-minute radio recording of Wing Commander Gibson himself, being interviewed on Canadian radio, and continuing with Richard Dimbleby's commentary on a German bombing he took part in with WC Gibson, plus a film of the 2004 memorial service at Porthleven Cemetery, the showing will end with never-before-seen footage of the unveiling of a bronze plaque at the Institute on May 16 this year.
Mr Strike said: “The idea of this film show is to bring the whole thing to a conclusion. I don't anticipate doing it again unless I'm asked to do it. I'm not planning to do it myself. This film show will bring everything together.”
Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start. The evening will also include a pasty supper. Tickets cost £5 and can be bought in advance from Porthleven Post Office or bought on the door.
To reserve call Vic Strike on 01326 562491 and pay on arrival. Proceeds will go to a yet-to-be-decided Cornish charity. Stock photos of Guy Gibson and of the plaque unveiling earlier this year .
