His wife will soon be taking her clothes off for charity and Peter Gummow is heading for the hills. Far from fleeing, however, Peter will in fact be supporting his wife Elaine in her efforts to raise funds for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research alongside her fellow members of Carnon Downs Drama Group.

The group is staging the Westcountry premier of Calendar Girls this October, telling the true story of 11 Yorkshire WI members who pose nude for a calendar to raise money for a new settee in the local hospital waiting room, in memory of a member’s husband who died from non-Hodgkin lymphoma – and end up exceeding all expectations.

It is a feat that the Carnon Downs thespians are hoping to repeat, even in some small way. To help boost the total Peter Gummow will be competing this Sunday (September 16) in the London Bikeathon.

This is a 52-mile bike ride that takes in part of the Olympic route that Team GB gold medallist Bradley Wiggins followed just a few weeks ago. Peter is hoping to strike gold himself by raising much needed funds for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research who are organising the bike ride. Carnon Downs Drama Group has said how grateful it is to Peter for offering to do this and wished him every success for Sunday.

Readers can show their support also by sending donations online via www.justgiving.com/peter-gummow .

The West Country premier of Calendar Girls takes to the stage from October 17 to 20 at Perranarworthal Memorial Village Hall (also known as Perranwell Village Hall) at 7.30pm. For tickets call the box office 08454 500296.
