Saracen Awards to honour services to Penryn

PENRYN’S Saracen Awards, which have been described as the town’s version of the “OBE”, are open for nominations again this week.
The award is designed to recognise service to the town and is the “highest mark of esteem and honour that the council can bestow.”
Normally the awards are given out once every two years but town mayor, Gill Grant, has decreed another set of awards should be held this year after the sheer number of nominations in 2011.
Town clerk, Michelle Davey, said: “The town council may make up to two awards in any one year and recipients are restricted to individuals who have at some time resided in Penryn or worked in organisations based in Penryn. “Last year’s recipients were Brian Plint and Dulcie Blackmore, but there were a number of other worthy nominations which prompted the mayor to consider additional awards this year.”
Nominations can be submitted in writing, addressed to the mayor at: Penryn Town Council, Saracen House, Higher Market Street, Penryn TR10 8HU.
Deadline for submissions is October 19 and a decision will be made by full council.
