Falmouth park dog ban suggested

DESPITE widespread praise for the recent improvements made at Kimberley Park, the issue of dogs running loose in the area still needs to be addressed.

That was the message at a meeting of Falmouth Town Council’s finance and general purposes committee on Monday evening.

The meeting was discussing comments made by the judge during the recent Green Flag judging day, who described it as a ‘remarkable first time entry’ by the park.

The park was awarded a Green Flag, a national award that recognises the best public and community parks and green spaces. Councillor John Body said: “People have come up with nothing but praise for the new play area and the toilets.

“However, I have had no end of people including pensioners and parents complaining about dogs running around off their leads.”

Council clerk Mark Williams said: “Dog control orders are an emotive subject, but we are looking at what we can do.”

Councillor David Sterratt, chairman of the committee, added: “We are addressing the issue, but it takes time.”

we are responsible dog owners ,always clean up after him and wouldnt let him off the lead in any public place but as usual its a minority that do let their dogs run freely wherever they are and ruin the enjoyment for others. people tend to ignore signs about cleaning up after your dog and please keep dogs on leads ,should be an instant fine ,but there is no one to catch them.

This is just not fair. I love walking and using this park and have used it for years with my children and dog and have always cleared up and kept my dog on a lead. Dogs can be a major part of family lifes and we have all taken part in getting together with dog shows at the park etc., to make Kimberley Park better so why should responsible owners now be banned from this lovely park. Rather than banning responsible owners a way should be found to fine the irresponsible ones not just blanket ban for all.
