Chummy mummies celebrated half a century of friendship this week, at a special anniversary lunch in the Falmouth Hotel.

Held to mark the 50th anniversary of the Falmouth Mothers Club, the event was well attended despite being on the same morning as the Antiques Roadshow’s visit.

Founder member Gwen Dunstan had even cancelled plans to go along to the televised show at the National Maritime Museum on Thursday, so she could be amongst her friends at the hotel.

Chair, Susan Coulls, said: “They have done the room beautifully for us, with all the tables laid up and lovely gold menus.

“We usually meet in the evenings, but we thought we would have a lunch just to celebrate – and where better than the Falmouth Hotel?”

The Mothers Club meets on the second Thursday of the month at the Bosvale Community Centre off Hillside Road.

They hold regular coffee mornings and fundraising events to support local charities and have raised money for the Children’s Hospice South West for the past 19 years. Alongside monthly lectures, the group also fosters a real sense of friendship – with past members being invited to anniversary events so they can reminisce with old friends.

Susan said: “A lot of the members that have come to the lunch are past members, but we have invited them along because they have done something for the club, in that they could have been chairs or secretaries or treasurers.

“We give to two charities every year and we don’t keep any money ourselves – We just make it and give it away,” she added.
