A Penzance family served up a proper Cornish welcome when they hosted a national radio DJ for dinner.

The visit to Dan Robins and his family in Penalverne was then played out on the national Christian O’Connell Breakfast Show on Absolute Radio.

Dan and his wife Jen were hosts to Christian’s co-presenter Richie Firth, as part of his tour of the UK to promote the show, in which he stopped off at listeners’ homes on the way.

Richie enjoyed a dinner of homemade Cornish pasties with Dan, Jen and their children nine-year-old Lewis and six-year-old Tommy, pupils at Pensands Primary School.

Dan, 35, a general manager at Ladbrokes in Penzance, said: “I was at work one day listening to the radio and I heard that Richie would be driving through the area in his van and I thought ‘why not?’

"We're a really adventurous family, we'll try anything – and this was definitely a unique experience.”

Thanking the family Richie said: “To be honest, after several days on the road I was flagging a bit by the time I got to Penzance and I needed to refuel. Luckily, there was some amazing Cornish food and a proper local Penzance welcome waiting for me.”
