Debate on hold due to lack of councillors

A debate over an application to place tables and chairs outside a Falmouth coffee shop had to be put on hold on Monday evening.

Falmouth Town Council’s planning committee had been due to discuss whether the outside seating should be granted permission for the Killigrew Street premises.

However, Councillor Charlie Choak declared an interest in the application as it is situated just a couple of doors away from his pasty shop, and chairman Diana Merrett also declared an interest as she had held discussions with the shop owner previously.

It meant neither councillor could vote on the plans, leaving too few councillors to make a decision.

The application will now be debated when the planning committee next meets.

Put it on hold forever if you like! What's the sudden obsession with premises trying to take over the outside space as well?

This is a very well used pavement, tables and chairs are bound to get in the way of pedestrians, pushchairs etc.

I see in the planning application that the reason for it is purely 'to make the shop visible from a distance' so it's not even really for the customers benefit!!!
