School takes over running of pre-school

Manaccan Primary School has taken over the running of the adjoining pre-school.
Despite being based on the same grounds, it was previously run by an independent committee.
Now both the primary and pre-school come under the same leadership, which has resulted in an extension of opening hours and more places available.
The pre-school now caters for children five days a week, Monday to Friday, between 9am and 3.15pm.
The playgroup sessions have continued as previously, although the word ‘playgroup’ has been removed from its name.
Pre-school leader Sarah Brennan said: “It’s had a really positive effect. All the children can come together and it’s extended their learning. They’re integrated more.”
She added that the pre-school children now shared the primary school’s resources and it created an easier stepping stone into school, as the youngsters knew the teachers and the children in the years above.
“It’s like home from home for them,” said Sarah.
She thanked the past committee members for all they did, adding: “They worked really hard but it got a little bit too much for them.
“They didn’t have anybody to continue the committee, so the school took us over so we could continue to run.”
