When 27-year-old Paul Laity planted a packet of cannabis seeds nearly every one grew successfully, Paul Gallagher, defending, told Truro Crown Court.
Laity admitted setting up what prosecutor Iain White described as a “rustic” hydroponic growing system in a bedroom in his home in New Road, Falmouth last autumn.
It had cost about £800 and the crop had a potential maturity value of over £6,000, he said.
Judge Philip Wassall imposed on Laity, an unemployed fisherman, a nine month prison sentence suspended for two years.
Laity, of previous good character, must also do 180 hours of unpaid work for the community and pay £1,200 costs.
