Saturday morning saw Blue Watch and White Watch from Falmouth community fire station take part in sponsored car wash at the station’s car park.

The car wash is part of a nationwide fund raising event for the Firefighters Charity. The organisation is in place to help wounded and recuperating firefighters who have become injured in the course of performing their duty.

Stewart Williams, blue watch manager said: “We raised a total of £491.15p exactly.

“We had a massive amount of fun and completely lost count of the cars we washed.

“We didn’t ask for any specific amount of money, but people were more than generous with their donations, with some giving up to £30.

“It costs £9 million a year to keep the charity running and with no government funding we are completely reliant on the generosity and enthusiasm of our supporters. As well as clean cars, many people drove away with fresh fire safety advice and new tips about preventing fire in the home. Stewart added: “We even go up to the hall of residence at Tremough campus, giving the students handy advice on how to avoid chip pan fires, through to unnecessary call outs.”
