Surprise for Germoe chairman of governors
There was a surprise in store for Germoe Primary School's chairman of governors when she celebrated her 80th birthday.
Anne Cook, who has been a governor for 30 years, believed she was only going into the school to attend its World's Biggest Coffee Morning event, which happened to be taking place on her birthday last Thursday.
What Mrs Cook didn't realise was the whole school had gathered to sing her happy birthday, alongside many of her family.
Her son and an old school friend who both live in Bristol had, unbeknown to her, travelled down the previous night and were staying with her daughter Hilary, who had baked a big birthday cake.
Among the wellwishers were Mrs Cook's grandchildren: Eve who is in the reception class at the school and little Toby who attends the adjoining pre-school.
Anita Care, from the school, said: “It was a fantastic turnout, enjoyed by all and it was lovely. She was really, really surprised.”
