Talk to reveal secrets of Porthcurno

A free evening talk at Porthcurno Telegraph Museum promises to reveal Cornwall’s hidden heritage and its vital role in connecting the world.

Hosted by John Packer, honorary curator of the museum, the free evening talk ‘Cornish Communications: From semaphore to satellite’ will take place on Wednesday, October 17 as part of the regular Ideas Café.

John, who trained at Porthcurno before his career as a telecommunications engineer took him around the globe, will discuss the evolution of communications technology from the manual to the high-tech.

Rachel Webster, communications officer, said: “Our Ideas Café evening talks explore big questions, but in a way that is entertaining and accessible.

Visitors can ask questions and contribute their own ideas, or simply sit back and listen.

Everyone is welcome and it’s a great place to catch up with friends and enjoy a really stimulating discussion.”

Entry to the museum is half-price from 4pm, and entry to the talks is free from 6pm. Talks begin at 6.15pm.
