Gorsedh ceremony a 'huge' honour for Penryn

Preparations are now underway for Penryn’s turn at hosting the Gorsedh ceremony, to be held in the town next year.

The Gorsedh is an annual celebration of the Celtic spirit of Cornwall and was last held in Penryn in 1974.

An initial meeting of local organisations, on October 29 at 7pm, will strive to establish an organising committee for the event.

Town mayor Gill Grant said: “It’s going to be a huge thing for Penryn next year.

“The next job is to set up the local organising committee and I think when we have had our first meeting it will all become a lot clearer.”

The event itself is billed for the first Saturday in September next year and any organisations wishing to take part can contact the council offices on 373086 for more information.
