Helston Sunken Garden dog ban after fouling complaints

Dogs are to be banned from Helston’s Sunken Garden after the town council received “loads” of complaints over the amount of mess found.
The council’s amenities committee took the decision to implement a dog control order in the entire garden area and the grass bank opposite.
Members felt they were left with no choice after hearing of the numerous letters of complaint. The final straw was when organisers of last month’s Cornish wrestling championships had to clear up dog mess before using the garden for the event.
Committee chairman Sue Swift said there had been many other complaints to both the town council and Cornwall Council, including from their own grass cutters who were unable to carry out their work due to the amount of mess.
Mrs Swift said: “I myself had spoken with the dog warden, who had visited the site and agreed it was a bad state there.
“This has come about because of the thoughtless actions of some irresponsible dog owners in an area that is much used by so many, and we felt we had to take action.”
She added that town clerk Chris Dawson will now put “the wheels in motion” for the dog control order.
Notification went up on the railings to the garden on Monday.

I would love to see a program of education and enforcement on these owners who are spoiling things for all responsible dog owners. It's not hard to carry a small plastic bag with you to pick-up.
