St Keverne street light switch off

An idea to turn down street lights in St Keverne late at night has been supported by many of the parish councillors.

Many members were already in favour of turning the street lighting off entirely between midnight and 6am, in a bid to save energy.

Councillor Bill Frisken said mobile phone signals were used to turn the lights on and off, depending on the season, and for special occasions they could be left on all night.

Councillor Russell Hocking feared if the lights were turned off altogether then crime would increase.

Members were read an email by a Cornwall Council officer that said a four-week trial elsewhere had seen the lights turned off entirely between 2.30am and dawn for the first two weeks and then turned down for the second two weeks.
