Dairy delight for Duchy students

Agriculture and countryside students from Duchy College Rosewarne got stuck in to the farming calendar when they enjoyed a trip to the Dairy Show at the Bath & West Showground.

The students explored the showground and had the opportunity to see the latest developments in agriculture and find out how environmental concerns are now affecting the industry.

Phil Pengelly, course manager, said: “This is one of the premier events in the dairy farming calendar and a great show for the students to visit as an introduction to their course.

“The group saw all the latest farm equipment ranging from robotic milking parlours to the cutting-edge tractors and material handlers.

There was also a range of feed merchants, livestock housing contractors and advisory bodies on site so lots for them to see and learn about.”

Andrew Counsell, head of Duchy College, said: “The students make a number of field visits during their studies. Meeting experts from industry and attending significant shows like this really gives them a broad knowledge of the agricultural trade.”
