An special event, including a family friendly Songs of Praise, will mark the 125th anniversary of Truro Cathedral on November 3.

On the 3rd November 1887 a packed congregation, estimated at 2,500, gathered for the Consecration Service of Truro Cathedral.

The foundation stones had been laid seven years earlier and the partially completed cathedral was ready for its first use.

On Saturday 3rd November 2012, exactly 125 years later, the Cathedral will be celebrating its 125th anniversary with a birthday party in the Nave.

The chairs will be cleared and everything decorated and festooned with balloons, there will even be a huge birthday cake to tuck into.

There will be free art and craft activities together with a number of different children's trails to follow.

Lots of fun games and activities, and even a bouncy castle. The Cathedral Restaurant and Shop will be open with everything starting at 11am and running through until 3pm when the Bishop of Truro will lead a family friendly Songs of Praise.

There will also be a chance to meet some of the Cathedral and Diocesan community as they highlight some of the different activities that take place; bell ringing, sewing guild, education, music and worship, mission and outreach. All in all there will plenty to see and do and above all it will be a lot of fun.
