Falmouth councillors say scrap network manager post

A MOTION calling for Cornwall Council to stop funding Falmouth’s community network manager was passed by councillors at the town council on Monday evening.

Councillor David Sterratt submitted the motion, which called for a letter to be written to New County Hall stating: “Falmouth is well served with the town clerk and town manager and their support staff.

“It considers that the position of community network manager for Falmouth is an additional expense on Cornwall Council which is not justified, considering the present financial climate the council finds itself in.”

Councillors, who did not debate the motion, voted by nine votes to one, with three abstentions, to support it.

Charlotte Chadwick, community network manager for Falmouth, Penryn, Helston and The Lizard, said she did understand the reasoning behind the move.

It is only fair to point out that Charlotte Chadwick is the network manager for nine parishes and not as stated the network manager for Falmouth.
Anyone with any sense would realise the huge amount of work this lady does and her devotion to her work and the people she supports.
The motion placed by Cllr Sterratt goes to show that he is not in touch with the real world and lives in his own little world along with those on the Town Council who believe no one else can suggest or do anything with out their permission.
Charlotte has my full support in her position as Network Manager for the Falmouth and Helston area.

Charlotte Chadwick has done a lot of good work in Helston, and if Falmouth town council do not appreciate her then that is their loss.

I am begining to wonder if Falmouth town council are completely dysfunctional.

Charlotte Chadwick is an extremely busy lady and has done a lot for Helston. How cllr Sterratt has come up with this to dispose of her is beyond me. Yet another blackmark against Falmouth tc.

Please read the motion, it is to cut costs to the Cornwall Council. The same Council that is proposing to close toilets due to lack of money. We have a Town Clerk, Falmouth Town Manager and Bids Manager, so we can deal with what is necessary in the Town.
If I live in my own little world Councillor Eva, ask the people of Falmouth, would they rather have the Sea Front weeds cut, seaweed taken off the beach, public toilets or a network manger for the Town?

I fail to see how not having Charlotte Chadwick working for Falmouth will release funds from Cornwall Council to Falmouth Town Council for things such as toilets and seaweed removal/weed cutting. They come out of a different pot of money.

How about disband Falmouth Town Council and save Cornwall Council money and just have Charlotte Chadwick.

Yes I have read the motion.
Is this really about money or more so about egos!!!! I doubt Falmouth will get any more money from Cornwall Council whether they have Charlotte Chadwick or not.

Charlotte Chadwick abides by the code of conduct and works hard for the community and achieves a lot. Did the town council ask the opinions of the electorate before submitting the motion.

Don't be silly Jen they know best. Why would they need to ask anyone
The answer Cllr Sterratt is that the weeds and the beaches are the subject of a CIC to run the seafront and therefore the people can have both. Now will you support a CIC Dr Sterratt

I almost forgot that includes the toilets at the beaches.
And a different CIC Incase you were wondering.

It would appear to me that while the town council are sitting around having little discussions and signing motions and having meetings where they talk about seaweed, it is other people out there actually taking some action to improve things for Falmouth.

"How about disband Falmouth Town Council and save Cornwall Council money and just have Charlotte Chadwick."??

How about disband Cornwall Council and save us all a heap of money that those twerps waste on a regular basis.

Lanty slee are you aware of the work that Charlotte does. Or are you just so arrogant you make such cheap remarks and so brave in doing so you hind behind this false name.
I hope you are proud of yourself.

I wasn't aware that I had made a comment on Charlotte's role, Steve?

I was simply calling for the dispersal of the fatuous, profligate nest of vipers that this so-called 'unitary authority' has become.

The experiment in centralisation has failed.

You people (by which I mean _you_ haughty pillocks sat around your curved tables up in Truro - not Charlotte, she's merely a symptom of the disease) You people shouldn't be trusted with our money or our services.

Gill Zella Martin says...

I think it is unfair to generalize. There are a lot of very good Cornwall Councillors out there whether they are 'sitting' around tables or otherwise. Councillor Steve Eva is one of them.

Charlotte Chadwick's help is very welcome in the Helston and Lizard area.

Actually Slanty lee I totally agree with parts of your statement but would have put it differently.
I too think that there are too many people sat around tables at County Hall I do think the the authority is too big and because so less get done.
I still after over 3 years would rather have remained a Carrick Councillor and that Cornwall Council never happened. I was not at fault for creating this and my only crime was to apply stand and be selected by the people of Arwenack Falmouth.
But let's cut to the chase this story was about a lady who works extremely hard for 9parishes having a motion against her by the Falmouth Town Council. I rightly pointed out she covers more than Falmouth.
So if you are saying you agree that you have no problem with her then good. We agree.

DCI Jen says...

If Falmouth town council no longer want the benefits of Charlotte Chadwick does that mean Helston and the Lizard and other towns/parishes she covers will get more of her time, because if so that would be great. She is full of enthusiasm and works hard.

Lanty Slee how rude to call steve eva and others haughty pillocks.. not at all nice or necessary.. DCI JEN, I agree Charlotte does work extremely hard and is very good for Helston.

Never heard of Ms Chadwick before or of a 'community network manager' . However, I have heard a lot in the last few hours about the state of our town council. My guess is Ms Chadwick does more good for the community than the town council. Why not get rid of all the councillors and replace them with Ms Chadwick and the Evas? They sound like decent types to me. And we'd save some money.

Now that molesworth, I completely agree with. That would be excellent. Charlotte Chadwick has been brilliant for Helston, Steve Eva is a great Cornwall Councillor and both he and his wife were efficient when they served on Falmouth town council. Not to mention all these people are honest.

Gill Zella Martin says...
9:15am Sat 20 Oct 12

Well I have mentioned they are honest, but that is because it is true, and they also all care very deeply about the local communities.

In light of the recent revelations about the Falmouth town council, perhaps they would be better saving money by scrapping the Mayor.
