Epworth Hall community garden scheme

A community garden is being created on land next to Helston’s Epworth Hall. The Epworth Hall Event Garden will be used for events, horticulture and training, and will include allotments and a seed bank.
Work has already started on the garden, which has been completely cleared of weeds. Through a partnership with Helston Job Centre, the wall has been re-pointed and the group has received small donations of work tools to use in the garden.
Emma Wooderson, a trustee at the Epworth Hall, said it was likely to cost in the region of £10,000 and the aim was to complete the garden by July next year.
Ms Wooderson said: “The garden will add a sustainable income to support the renovating of the hall. The more people in Helston involved in volunteering in the community the more vibrant Helston will become and it will encourage people to use the town.”
Gardening would be done in a sustainable and organic way, in order to achieve the Standard Mark, she added. The team hope to show people how to maintain allotments in a small area.
Epworth is renowned for its theatrical background and they hope to put on events in the garden, as well as hire it out for other events such as fairs.
They are also going to invite schools and colleges to train at the garden.
