Truro’s Waterstones book shop will be invaded by animals over half term as part of the launch of a wildlife-related book.

The Wildlife Adventures of Super Fox is the first children’s book to be produced by the Cornwall Wildlife Trust.

Super Fox and his friends first appeared in Pawprint, the newsletter of the trust’s junior section Fox Club, back in 1983.

Now he features in his very own book, written by Rowena Millar with illustrations by Sarah McCartney. Whenever wildlife is in trouble, the red caped conservation hero Super Fox flies to the rescue.

The book is a 56-page soft-back filled with hand drawn wildlife cartoons, puzzles, creative crafts and outdoor activities.

All proceeds from its sales will be fed back into the Fox Club, to help run a programme of events all year round throughout Cornwall that aim to inspire children to explore and enjoy the wildlife and places around them.

Kirstie Francis, Fox Club coordinator, said: “We hope that the book will encourage children to get out of doors and see the wildlife around them. It teaches children in a fun way what they can do to help their environment and their wildlife, plus it has lots of other exciting things to do as well”.

To celebrate the book owls, bats, slow worms and toads will be appearing at Waterstones between Monday, October 29 and Friday, November 2 as part of a children’s activity week organised by Fox Club.

Wildlife sessions are being held in the children’s section at the bookshop from 11am to 1pm. The Monday will see a visit from an owl, Wednesday is for anyone batty about bats, while on the Friday wildlife ranger Gary Zammit from Feadon Farm will bring some of his animal friends.

Children who would rather sit and draw, or make some wildlife of their own, should pop along on the Tuesday or Thursday where there will be arts and crafts sessions going on.

The book is also available online at http://www.cornwallwildlifetrust.org.uk/shop costing £5.99 plus p&p at £2.75 (second class within the UK). The book can also be sent worldwide; call 01872 273939.
