No government cash to subsidise Isles of Scilly helicopter link

There will be no government cash to subsidise an Isles of Scilly helicopter link according to Penzance's MP Andrew George.

Mr George said the news came following a meeting with Transport Minister Norman Baker.

The current helicopter service will stop at the end of October and the Scillonian ferry only runs for seven months a year.  The Skybus link is weather-dependent.

Mr George said he has been arguing for the past 15 years to make the case that the isalnds shoudl be treated the same as Scottish islands which have "substantial subsidies to assist both ferry and air services."
