Touch of nostalgia at RBL 1940's style fundraiser
A touch of nostalgia came to Porthleven on Saturday with a 1940s style fundraising event. Supporters danced their way to £200, which will be split between Helston Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal and Porthleven Lights.
Dressed in clothes from the 1940s members of the WWII Re-enactment South West, which organised the event, showed people how the dance moves should be done, with music coming from DJ 12 O’Clock.
The dance took place at Porthleven Public Hall, which was suitably decked out in Union Flag bunting and red, white and blue to give a wartime feel to the evening.
The hall was once the scene of dances held by F Company, 175th Regiment of the 29th Infantry, when they were billeted to Porthleven in 1944, It is thought this is the first dance of its kind to take place there since the end of World War II and organisers said the event took place in their honour.
