Penryn-based Blue Flame held its annual apprentice awards recently to celebrate the achievements of the company’s apprentices and adult learners.

Hosted by Blue Flame’s training and development director, Paul Smith, the event featured awards including Best Comedy Performance, Health and Safety Champion and Apprentice of the Year.

The six apprentices who graduated this year were presented with certificates and a prize of tools supplied by City Electrical Penryn and City Plumbing Redruth.

Paul said: “It’s been 25 years since we launched our first apprenticeship programme and during that time over 70 people have been through the scheme, many of whom still work for us today.

“Seeing apprentices graduate after three years of training, or celebrate the work of those completing their first year, still gives me a great sense of pride. We wish them the best of luck in their new roles as junior engineers at Blue Flame."

Five graduates, Matt Collins, Marty Conlon, Phil Hinchley, Chris Hellier and James Salisbury, completed the full gas service and maintenance apprenticeship, while Poppy Gould completed the electrical engineering scheme.

Poppy said: “I’m really pleased to have completed my apprenticeship and I’m looking forward to developing my career. I’ve really enjoyed learning in the field and getting to meet our customers across Cornwall.”
