A Cornish midwife has launched a range of grab-and-go changing bags after she became concerned over the use of chemicals in producing products for parents.

Marie Louise Maternity, based in Falmouth, will use non-toxic materials from the supplier to Barbour and Burberry, packed full of the safest and most essential items for mums and babies.

The contents of the bags will all be chosen by Marie Louise, an experienced midwife who was tired of seeing huge, frumpy bags full of dubious items and products full of chemicals being brought to births.

Non-toxic, and built to last the perfectly functional and ready to go bag is packed with a safe, environmentally friendly, healthy, organic and carefully chosen selection of products, perfect for labour, birth, the first 24 hours of a newborn baby’s life and beyond.

Marie Louise said: “There are so many mixed messages and I have seen such confusion about what mums and dads should bring to births. Despite best intentions, many arrive with a lot that is not needed. Sometimes suitcases full. Often the items are just not safe for a newborn, and items are forgotten that are really needed.”

“I wanted to make a stylish and safe grab-and-go changing bag I would feel proud recommending to my family and friends. People don’t need to research for hours, shop for days, or worry about what could be forgotten. Now they can pick up the ultimate maternity bag packed with style, clinical experience and essential items for the delivery and those magical but vital 24 hours after the birth.”

Made in Cornwall from recycled leather and fluorocarbon free material, the fabrics are the result of eight years of research by Halley Stevenson, the world leading waxed cotton and luggage canvas specialist based in Dundee since 1864.

MLM's design touches mean that mums can show their style does not fly out the window when the stork flies in. Even the metalwork is nickel-free marine steel, all helping keep toxins where they should be... far away from a newborn.

It is not just the MLM bag that has mother and baby's health at heart, all the products inside have been chosen based on real life maternity experience.

Marie Louise Maternity is already in discussions with a famous high street retailer, but until they arrive on shelves across the UK they will be available from mlmaternity.com
