The countdown is now on to the Cornwall Manufacturers Group awards dinner which will take place on November 2.
UK manufacturing has moved up one spot from to eighth in the 2017 global league table according to recent data from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). This booming sector offers higher than average earnings countywide, employs over 16,000 people and contributes £800m to the Cornish economy.
Manufacturing is the winning sector globally, nationally and regionally and the awards night, with guest speaker, Mike Rigby, Barclay’s UK head of manufacturing, will celebrate this valuable and significant industry.
Recognising the very best in manufacturing across environmental and community projects, innovation, export and apprenticeships, one business and company leader will win the coveted business leader of the year and the manufacturer of the year awards.
Shortlisting and final interviews across an enormously high calibre of candidates are taking place across the county with the judges visiting manufacturing facilities, reviewing processes and analysing the applications on site.
Mel Colton-Dyer, chief operating officer at the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce and one of the judges, said: “The quality of the applications has been exceptional and the evening will showcase the very best companies working in manufacturing in the county.
"What has been really reassuring is seeing the high number of applications for apprentice/trainee of the year, clearly showcasing the fresh, young talent seizing the opportunity to work in this rewarding and important sector.”
