Staff from Coastline Housing have used their business acumen to raise over £500 to support children with life limiting illnesses.

A team from the Redruth based not for profit housing association completed the Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) £50 Challenge, and raised £555.20 charity, which helps children with illnesses which mean they won't survive to adulthood.

The team, named ‘Ice Ice Baby’, was given £50 by CHSW and asked to reinvest the money and raise as much funding as possible in three months.

Ice Ice Baby took to the supermarkets and stocked up on ice creams for the summer months and then sold them on to staff in their offices who made donations.

Richard Bettison, head of financial reporting and control at Coastline and team captain of Ice Ice Baby, said: "The finance and performance team at Coastline have a bit of a reputation for having a sweet tooth, and we thought how great it would be if we had ice cream available in the office for the whole of summer.

The support throughout the business has been fantastic, keen customers included our director of finance and certain members of our development team, we also had one of the ‘ICE ICE BABY’ team members that tried her hand rather successfully to making fresh ice cream. We felt like we provided a really great service and I am thankful for the team members who gave up their spare time to help raise money for the children."

Bernadette Chambers, corporate partnerships fundraiser for CHSW, said: "The team from Coastline Housing have done so well with this challenge. They had a very inventive and simple idea which they could involve many of their colleagues with and their work has paid off and they have raised a substantial amount for our hospice. Thank you to everyone for getting involved in the ice cream breaks in the office."

CHSW support children with life limiting illnesses and their families through their three hospices in the South West including Little Harbour in St Austell. CHSW offers respite stays, palliative care, emergency stays, end of life care and bereavement support and are supporting families from diagnosis right through to end of life.
