A Penryn mother-of-two was “absolutely amazed” at the support she received at a fun day she organised to raise money towards her trek up Mount Kilimanjaro which she plans to do next September in aid of the Children’s Hospice South West.

Lorraine Pascoe laid on a children’s fun afternoon at the Dracaena Centre in Falmouth where families were invited to get involved in a range of activities including archery, juggling, a treasure hunt, sand art and water bombing.

There was also a bouncy castle, candyfloss, cakes, hot dogs, ice lollies, face painting and music and by the end of the afternoon £425 had been raised towards Lorraine’s target of £3,500. She said: “It was absolutely amazing – the support was fantastic. There was lots of interest from everybody who turned up.

“This was just the start and the whole idea of the events I am going to do is to |get children out and playing with |their families.”

Lorraine, 33, has decided to raise money for the children’s hospice as she is full of admiration for the service it offers. “I know what it’s like to be a mum and I am fortunate to have healthy children, |but there are plenty of families who |are not so lucky and who need that support,” she said.

Lorraine recently took her children, Jack, six, and four-year-old Millie-Lou, who are home schooled, to the hospice where they were shown around the facility.

With less than a year to go until the charity trek, Lorraine is already training hard, with help from Primal Fitness Cornwall. “I know that between now |and next year I need to get a lot stronger,” she said.

To join the trek Lorraine needs to raise at least £3,500 and has already secured pledges totalling more than £1,000, much through her Virgin Moneygiving page. Her next fundraising event is a children's Halloween party to be held at the Temperance Hall in Penryn from 4.30pm on October 31.
